Why Should Recruiters Think like Marketers?

The HR environment has undergone a sea change in recent times. It is apparent now that a recruiter, among his many skills, needs to be a great marketer, though the reverse needn’t necessarily be so. Since the past few years, recruiters have realized that their role isn’t just to scour or search for the ideal talent, but to select and hire them too. It is his task to create an excellent employment brand and maintain it too. This task is mainly done by a company’s recruitment team with additional support from its marketing team. From this, one can see that the lines between these two departments are blurring and merging into one.

Conduct Market Intelligence: 

To increase a company’s familiarity with the local, domestic or national labor market, it’s essential to conduct market intelligence. This includes sourcing a competitor’s chief employees also where these companies get their candidates from and where those who leave go to. A marketing mind would be adept at such information, you would agree.

Make the Company Marketable to New Candidates:

Again, for fresh candidates to be attracted to a company, it is very necessary that it puts out a job description in a way that attracts experienced and ‘hot’ talent. To do this, companies advertise their corporate culture and some extra benefits they offer their candidates to leverage for better candidates.

In order to attract the best talent in the market, job descriptions are written using SEO keywords so that they are easily picked up online and replied to. Therefore, it is necessary that recruiters have not just great marketing skills but also very good creative and copy writing talent. The proposition they put out to a potential candidate in an advertisement should be attractive financially and in career terms, two talents that are best linked to marketing people.

With the popularity of social media networks rising, it’s not surprising that the next development was to create recruitment mobile apps to attract job seekers to apply to them. It works well as youngsters have smartphones on which they can access these sites when on the go. Some of the best apps for recruiters in this regard are LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, which are considered professional sites frequented by HR managers of big companies. Job seekers also scan QR Codes of companies and apply to them through this. Apps for recruiters expedite contact between companies and candidates and help reach the company’s goal for recruitment.
